Scent Work classes run in a 6-week series for $200. If you miss one 1-class, you can make it up in the seventh week for free or attend one of the other classes at the same level. Drop-in classes are also available if we have room, except for Intro Scent Work.
Please review the Calendar tab. We offer multiple Intro, Novice, and Advanced classes during the week and weekends.
If you do not see a class time that fits your schedule, please contact us to be added to our waitlist. We start new classes all the time to accommodate interest.
PRIVATE CLASSES AVAILABLE
Classes are divided into small groups of no more than six students per class, giving you lots of time to practice with your pup. You will also have plenty of time to ask questions and cheer each other on during the learning process. Each class works on a different lesson plan that is appropriate to the level of the students. Odors vary, and we work on searching inside and outside, as well as buried vehicles and containers. We aim to keep the classes fresh and exciting for students and pups. Theory is also discussed in class, reviewing odor movement, blank areas, how temperature affects odor, elevated hides, inaccessible, and distractors, to name a few.
Introduction Scent Work starts with a presentation on gear, basic rules, and a time to ask questions. In the first class, we will introduce your dog to odor and pair it with a food treat. The series follows a specific program designed by your trainer to teach your dog to work to odor.
Novice Scent Work starts by digging deep into the different elements of both the AKC and NACSW competition. We break down the search areas, introduce different components into searching, and do lots of practice. Students should expect to repeat this class several times to build confidence and skills as we cover a lot of information.
Advanced Scent Work digs into theory paired with practice. It discusses how odor moves and adds the challenges of inaccessible hides, elevated searches, and multi-hide searches.
